Once noon aarti was done, Shri Sai Baba sent everybody for lunch. Only Lakshmi Bai, Bhagoji, Bayaji Appa Kote Patil, Bala Shimpi, Nimonkar, Shama were alongside him. Baba conversed with them and expressed a wish to take Him to Dagdi Wada (Booty Wada) as He did not like it in Dwarakamai. Shri Sai Baba sat on His Gaddi and took paan (beetle leaf) from Madhav Fasle. He drank water of which half went inside the throat and the rest came out. Baba’s eyes became moist and He called Lakshmi Bai Shinde and gave her 5 Rupees and later 4 Rupee coins.
Baba leaned on Bayaji Appa Kote Patil and breathed His last. Seeing this Bhagoji, informed Nimonkar who tried to pour water in Baba’s mouth, which trickled out. They sent word for the doctor. Dr. Pillay informed all that Baba left His mortal body. It was around 2:30 p.m. on 15th October 1918 Baba took His Samadhi. Devotees’ sadness cannot be described, they were wailing aloud and thronged to masjid to have last glimpse of the mortal coil. Abdul Baba whom Baba sent message to come just few minutes before He breathed His last, came running to the masjid repenting for not coming immediately when Baba called. They kept Baba’s body in a sitting position to let all have a glimpse of Him properly. Flowers were in abundance and even for those who were all the time with Baba in His lifetime it took hours for them to go near Shri Sai Baba.
